Happy New Year everyone out there. Last year, 2008, while there were some good times, we had several not so good days. I hope that 2009 will be a much better year for us. So far, it seems to have started off really great!
My mom came and spent New Year's Eve with us, which kind of surprised me. This is the second year since my dad passed away, and I didn't want her to be alone to reminence about times spent with my dad. We watched a movie, played Scrabble, and saw the ball drop in Times Square. Everyone then went to bed.
We got up this morning, all of us around 10 or 10:30. After a couple of cups of coffee, we had eggs and bagels and then got dressed. Mom stayed and talked and talked. I enjoyed her time spent with me. We watched some of the Rose Parade and talked some more. I asked her to stay for dinner, but she wanted to be home before dark. She left around 3:00.
It was close to 4:30 when our daughter Debby and her family drove up to greet us. We hadn't celebrated Christmas with them, so we opened all our gifts together. I got some lotion and money to spend shopping (for scrap items, of course.) This way I can go to AC Moore or Michaels, whoever has the best price for what I want.
It was our son-in-law's birthday on the 29th, so we gave him a birthday gift. For dinner we had ham, scalloped potatoes, and green beans, with chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert. The grand children cleared the table, and Debbie and I went down to scrap. She is working on a clipboard to use at work. It is coming along nicely. When she finishes it, I will post a picture of it.
They left around 11:45. We had a really great day today. I hope it is the start of a good year.
